Reflecting on the July Revolution 2024
December 27, 2024As 2024 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on my experience during the July Revolution in Bangladesh. This year marked a significant turning point as we witnessed the fall of an authoritarian government of Hasina and the rise of new government with student leaders and Dr. Muhammad Yunus as chief advisor. As a student at Dhaka University, I felt proud to be part of a movement that continues our institution’s legacy of fighting for democracy and justice. My involvement in the quota reform movement began in early July, where I served as a coordinator for my residence hall, Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall. We actively advocated for fairer job opportunities in government, aiming to tackle the long-standing inequalities within the system. The courage of countless protesters fueled widespread anger against the government's oppressive actions, leading to a unified demand for change known as “One Point.” Resignation of Hasina government! It was truly inspiring to witness so many individuals from all walks of life come together, united in their desire for a brighter future for our nation. This revolution is not just about political change; it represents our collective stand against injustice and our commitment to building a more inclusive society. This movement not only highlighted the need for reform but also showcased the power of collective action in driving meaningful change. Together, we stood strong in our fight for justice and equality! #JulyRevolution #Bangladesh #Democracy #QuotaReform #DhakaUniversity
